Diabetes Introduction

This introduction into diabetes is for qualified nurses and HCAs as an insight into what diabetes means and how it is treated. 'We will consider the types of diabetes, current NICE recommended treatments used and why target levels are important to try and help prevent diabetes acute and chronic complications As part of the treatment plan, we will consider the current healthy eating plan Care planning will be discussed and what this means in practice There will be plenty of time to look at case studies and chance to debate / discuss our current practice'

Diabetes Update

This update is for qualifies nurses and HCAs We will discuss current NICE guidelines in line with your local guidelines which will include current dietary advice for a healthy eating plan. Up to date research will be considered so that we can discuss how the current new medications fit into the person with diabetes medication pathway We will also discuss the Care Planning pathway and how this works in your area. There will be plenty of time to look at case studies and chance to debate / discuss our current practice

Diabetes, Refresher in Injectable Therapies

For previously trained Nurses.This update is for qualified nurses who have been trained to start people with diabetes on injectable therapy and not intended to teach nurses how to start injectables. We will be considering current NICE guidelines and your current local guidelines on starting injectables. This session will also cover recent research on when to start injectables and an update on what is covered in the initial review and any follow up reviews including checking injection sites, meters, needle usage and length. Dose adjusting (for Non Medical Prescribers) will be discussed and how this is alters with hypos / sick day rules. There will be plenty of time to look at case studies and chance to debate / discuss our current practice
