This course includes pre-course reading, 2 core days that is a balance of theory and clinical skills, department visits, in-house clinical placement with a mentor and final assessment undertaken by Clinical Training Limited. If additional visits are required to complete all aspects of the course requirements, there will be an extra charge to be met by the Surgery/Practice. Venepuncture Introduction

This interactive session will cover the anatomy and physiology of the peripheral venous system. 'What is blood' - It's components and function. Consent and accountability. Infection Control. What is Venepuncture? Selecting which vein to use. Practical Session. Commonly requested blood tests and their relevance. Certification will be provided once course competencies have been completed.

Doppler & Leg Ulcer Management Introduction

This is a two day course designed for Nurses and HCAs new to Doppler and Leg Ulcer. By the end, the delegate should be able to: - Understand the theory behind dopplers, - Understand the reasons why and how to undertake the procedure and be confident after the practical session to carry out Dopplers with their own surgery. - Assess types of leg ulcers. - Assess who is more at risk of leg ulcers/identify factors which aid wound healing. - Identify common medical terminology surrounding wounds, wound healing and tissue viability. - Describe wound dressing techniques and the priorities of different wound dressings/feel confident after the practical session to dress leg ulcers appropriately. - Understand the importance of competence assessment in regard to the HCA/Nurse role in wound care and leg ulcer dressings.
